Technology and Innovation

Most sea turtles are considered endangered or threatened, and only 1 in 1,000 sea turtles are estimated to successfully make it to sea upon hatching (SEE Turtles).

Element Hope is looking to change that.

We’ve developed an innovative, solar-powered, non-invasive sea turtle monitoring device to ensure that more endangered sea turtles successfully make it to sea each year. The device was developed by our engineer on staff, and monitors the movement and temperature of turtles, and alerts caretakers in the event of predation, hatching, and the hatchlings exiting the nest.

This device is unlike any of its kind: it collects a variety of data and records videos that can be used for further research, education, and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

We will be implementing the technology on North Carolina shores this spring. Stay tuned for more updates about our turtle technology, and where it will be launching, coming soon!
